Feature
DVIR, inspections and defects that actually close the loop
Driver vehicle inspection reports with photos and signature, configurable templates, and defects that route to a work order and back.
Free for up to 3 trucks. No card required.
The problem
Inspections happen in one app, defects get emailed, and nobody can prove the defect was ever fixed.
What changes
What Tezify does
Inspections in the driver app, defects that open a work order, and a defect that is cleared by the driver's re-inspection rather than by the shop closing a ticket.
- Configurable inspection templates, not a fixed checklist
- Photos and signature certification on every report
- Defect opens a work order automatically
- A defect is cleared by re-inspection, which is the correct model
- Full history retained per unit and per driver
What the rule says
What the regulation requires
- A driver must prepare a written report at the completion of each day's work on each vehicle operated, covering at least the service brakes including trailer brake connections, parking brake, steering mechanism, lighting devices and reflectors, tires, horn, windshield wipers, rear vision mirrors, coupling devices, wheels and rims, and emergency equipment.
- 49 CFR 396.11(a)(1) — Report required (2024 CFR)
- The report identifies the vehicle and lists any defect or deficiency that would affect the safety of its operation or result in mechanical breakdown, with a separate report for each vehicle operated. Drivers are not required to prepare a report if no defect or deficiency is discovered by or reported to them.
- 49 CFR 396.11(a)(2)(i) — Report content (2024 CFR)
- The driver must sign the report. On a two-driver operation only one of them needs to sign it, provided both agree on the defects identified.
- 49 CFR 396.11(a)(2)(ii) — Signature (2024 CFR)
- Before requiring or permitting a driver to operate the vehicle, the carrier must repair any listed defect likely to affect safe operation, and must certify on the report itself that the defect has been repaired or that repair is unnecessary.
- 49 CFR 396.11(a)(3) — Corrective action (2024 CFR)
- The report, the certification of repairs and the certification of the driver's review must be kept for three months from the date the written report was prepared.
- 49 CFR 396.11(a)(4) — Retention period (2024 CFR)
- Before driving, the driver must be satisfied the vehicle is in safe operating condition, review the last driver vehicle inspection report where one was required, and sign it to acknowledge both the review and the certification that the required repairs were performed.
- 49 CFR 396.13 — Driver inspection (2024 CFR)

Common questions
What problem does this solve?
- Inspections happen in one app, defects get emailed, and nobody can prove the defect was ever fixed.
How does TEZIFY handle it?
- Inspections in the driver app, defects that open a work order, and a defect that is cleared by the driver's re-inspection rather than by the shop closing a ticket.
Does a driver have to file a DVIR every day?
- A written report is required at the completion of each day's work on each vehicle operated, but a driver is not required to prepare one when no defect or deficiency has been discovered by or reported to them.
Who signs a defect off as fixed?
- Both sides. The carrier repairs the defect and certifies on the report that it was repaired or that repair is unnecessary; the driver then reviews that report before driving and signs to acknowledge the review and the certification.
How long do DVIRs have to be kept?
- Three months from the date the written report was prepared — the report itself, the certification of repairs, and the certification of the driver's review.
Is this an add-on, or included?
- Included in every paid plan rather than sold separately, and available on the free tier for up to three trucks.
How much does TEZIFY cost?
- Free for up to 3 trucks, then $19 per truck per month. Every module is included in every paid plan — nothing is held back as an upsell.
Do I pay for each person who logs in?
- No. Pricing is per truck, so dispatchers, accountants, safety managers and mechanics all get their own login at no extra cost.
