What is detention?

Free for up to 3 trucks. No card required.

Detention
Detention is money owed when a driver is held at a shipper or receiver beyond the agreed free time.

Free time and hourly detention rates are set per load, usually on the rate confirmation, and vary between brokers.

Detention goes unbilled mostly because arrival and departure times were never recorded well enough to prove it.

Capturing arrival and departure automatically is what turns detention from an argument into an invoice line.

Free time is whatever the rate confirmation states, and detention is billed in hours or part-hours once it runs out.

Some brokers require notification while the driver is still on site, which means a claim raised after the truck has left can be refused however long the wait actually was.
